Are mobile phones going to be a major cause of brain tumour death?
I would consider that to be a very important question that everyone should be asking, particularly parents.
Corporations are only interested in one thing... money. How much profit they can make in the short term. In the long term the present corporate leaders will have made their bonuses and wealth, and gone. Then society has to pick up the pieces in health care, and environmental costs.
It is time for people to assess the short, and long term pros and cons of using any technology considering the private, social and environmental impacts.
Take mobile phones for example, the computer of the 21 century, with around two thirds of the worlds population using one. So there are around 4 billion people using these devices and increasing.
Each generation of mobile phones is getting more features and becoming more compact. All this technology is taken at face value, and it becomes part of everyday life.
Why is there never a process of evaluation of the pros, and cons of using any technology, by the general population, just acceptance?
Ultimately you are responsible, because you have the choice to take the time to make an informed decision. Collectively, you have great power, you just have to exercise informed choice rather than acceptance. Collectively, the money you spend, and what you spend it on, gives you the power!
Lets look at the long and short term pros of using a Mobile, or smart phone.
1) A modern mobile phone or smart phone is easy to transport and use.
2) Relatively inexpensive in upfront costs (good marketing).
3) Most of the time it provides quick communication, by voice, text or photo.
4) Can be helpful in emergencies, to get help.
5) Easy instant access to information, and lots of it.
Lets look at the long and short term cons.
1) May kill you from radiation exposure. Children may be a particular risk because their brains are still developing and their skull bones are thinner than that of adults. I realize that the telecommunications companies are telling you the only effect from mobile phone radiation is a mild warming of the tissue.
The research I have read suggests it is affects the blood brain barrier. This is a natural filter in-built into the brain's blood supply to keep toxins in the blood out of the brain. Mobile phone radiation degrades the effectiveness of the blood brain barrier, allowing brain-affecting toxins, which are not normally allowed into the brain, to pass through. This is causing brain tumours to develop over time on the side of the brain where mobile phones are mostly held. This is a small percentage of mobile phone users at present.
This is little consolation for those who develop a brain tumour. This number could significantly increase as the children now using mobile phones grow up. It may, in the long term, also effect genetics by damaging DNA, plus there is already evidence in this research paper that suggest it also effects your memory. This research has not been widely published. Why not?
2) Mobiles greatly increase the risk of death or injury to you and others, because of the considerable numbers who drive and are distracted while using a mobile. This probably kills more people than the radiation exposure.
3) Huge numbers are being used and these are replaced with a new model every couple of years. This presents a very serious pollution problem. Most are disposed of in the local landfill.
4) Can't get any peace from constant communications, unless you observe the suggestions in this blog.
5) You can be tracked, recorded, or photographed without your knowledge through your personal mobile, or someone else's.
6) Can be expensive to run because of the accumulated ongoing costs of using a mobile. If your whole family has mobile phones, the costs are considerable.
7) Easy to lose or misplace, with lots of personal info on them.
It would clearly appear to me, that the cons out way the pros.
Do I think that the general population is going to stop using mobile phones? Of course not!
So if you are still going to use a mobile, what can you do to lessen the risks?
1) Demand phones that have less radiation. You could purchase a headset, or use the speaker phone feature to keep the radiation away from your head. Using a bluetooth head set does not fix the radiation problem, use a physically connected head set.
2) Governments should be tougher with people who drive while on a mobile. Treat it as seriously as drink driving.
3) Demand phones that are designed to be recycled, and only purchase phones from companies that provide an environmentally safe recycling service.
4) Observe these suggestions in my previous blog. To get some peace from constant phone calls.
5) As for being tracked, recorded, or photographed, through your mobile, turn it off when you don't want to use it, or leave it at home. Go to YouTube and type in "mobile phone spying" into the search facility, to become informed on this subject.
6) Look for the most cost effective plans, taking into account items 1 and 3.
7) Don't store lots of personal info your mobile, if you do, encrypt it.
After weighing up the pros and cons, I choose not to use a mobile, and I have managed to function very well without one, and live a happy communicative life. It was a good decision.
That's my personal choice, yours may be different. Assess the long and short term pros and cons for other technologies you are using.
Remember, collectively the money you spend, plus why and what you spend it on, gives you the power.
